New technology of plastic materials helps to recycle
Plastic materials are used for greenhouse covering, plastic film, pipes, packaging and other applications. The plastic film for greenhouse can be considered as a material source that is easy to recycle. According to Axion Consulting, the act of burning or burying plastic film may soon become history, because new technologies can transform plastic into fuel and other useful products.
Due to economic factors, as well as the problems related to the treatment and classification of recycling plants, plastic film recycling has been in the initial stage of development. Because of this, the world began to find alternative solutions to reduce the impact of plastic films, especially plastic bags, on the environment. Some policies are also controversial, such as banning disposable plastic bags and taxing consumers.
However, Axion Consulting believes that it is technically and economically feasible to convert low-density plastic film into fuel and other renewable products on a large scale. At the 12th European Gasification Conference held in the Netherlands a few days ago, Sam Haig, a member of IChemE and senior engineer of Axion Consulting, said: "The plastic film is very light and is formed in 2D. It is easy to be mixed into other recycling streams, such as paper, which will cause pollution.
"And in the recycling process, plastic film is easy to get stuck in the recycling machine and needs to be cleaned regularly. Therefore, in most parts of the world, plastic film is excluded from domestic waste recycling projects." "However, the new generation of recycling machines can sort about 95% of plastic films from the mixed waste with the help of air flow. Compared with the current machine combined with manual sorting mode, this process is more cost-effective and more efficient. More importantly, the recovered films can be made into other useful products."
Haig continued: "Our analysis results show that it is economically feasible to convert low-density plastics into fuel. We investigated five chemical processes and concluded that rapid pyrolysis, depolymerization and biomass gasification will provide significant economic benefits for plastic film recovery in the next 10 years."
The recovery of low density plastic film is of great significance. In today's deteriorating environment, where various resources are increasingly scarce, the recycling of low-density plastic film occupies a place. It is not only conducive to the protection of the environment and human health, but also conducive to the production of plastic film industry and the sustainable development of the country. With the progress of society and the development of science and technology, the prospect of low density plastic film recycling is optimistic. I believe that low density plastic film recycling will become the mainstream of waste plastic treatment.
